Building Your Home

It is estimated that self-build accounts for 14 to 18 percent of the total housing market, equating to between 15,000 and 25,000 houses every year. Other statistics have shown that there has been an 80 percent increase in the number of self-build homes over the last ten years, including a steady growth over the last five years at a time when the overall housing market was less than buoyant.

Market forecasts suggest that it will continue to grow at six percent per year, and that within just a few years as much as 25 percent of all new homes may be self-build. Even today, the market for services and materials for self-builders is conservatively estimated to be worth more than £1 billion each year.

This is an example of a self-build in Cardross, Scotland where the construction was done predominately with a mother and her daughter installing the PolySteel insulated concrete formwork.
